Return to Crystal Mountain!

In late June we were lucky enough to get to return to Crystal Mountain Resort for the second year in a row. Dan had a speaking engagement in the area and we had so much fun last year staying, that we went back for more. The boys had an absolute blast in the pool/waterpark area. We were very lucky to have a really hot and relatively rain free day. Reece couldn't get enough of the lilly pad crossing and Gret was a basket making machine!

Last year Gret got the biggest kick out the on-site restaurant being called "The Wild Tomato!" The name still brought a smile to his face. The food there was great and the breakfast buffet is FREE for kids. Score! When Gret got to go up and fill his plate with anything that we wanted he whispered to me, "Mom, this is like heaven!" Too cute.

There were 2 new features this year. The first was an alpine slide! Since they are doing quite a bit of construction at the resort, making room for a brand new spa, they gave us a few freebies in our room to make up for the noise/mess/etc. So, we got to try the slide out for free. You get to take the ski chairlift up to the top of the slide, then you get on a sled that you can control the speed on as your head to the bottom. It was all new to us, as we are not the skiing family and the boys were a little leery at first. But after the 1st ride, they were fired up to go again and go FASTER!!!

The second new attraction was a giant checkerboard. We all had fun moving the pieces around and getting to say, "King Me!" in a big way!

At dusk they offered an outside movie for you to watch. This year it was "Annie." Reece promptly passed out at 8pm from playing in the pool all day, so he was out. Dan volunteered to stay with him and watch the Tiger game. So, Gret and I headed out to find the movie. We called ahead to see if they were still having it, since it had been raining, and they told us they moved it inside and where to go. When we got there, we were the only ones! So, it was a private screening for 2 with FREE popcorn! Gret made it about 2/3rds of the way and then needed to go to sleep, so we called it a night.

The next day we stopped at an energy fair and the kids got to play energy learning games while Dan went from booth to booth shaking hands and kissing babies. From there we headed back for 1 night at the Brown House. It was good to be back and get a small taste of what was to come...our week long return on July 1st, when we'll get to stay almost a whole week! Can't wait!
