Let The Fireworks Begin...It's Memorial Weekend at the Brown House!

With sparklers in hand, we headed up to the BH for a fun filled Memorial Weekend. The Utley's were coming up, too, and we secured Aunt Lisa to babysit on Saturday night so all 4 of us could go into town and watch the Red Wings in the Stanley Cup Finals.

We arrived on Friday afternoon to sunny skies. After unloading our new patio set (my Mother's Day gift from Dan) both Dan and I caught big bass while the boys jumped thier little hearts out on the trampoline. We had a fire at night and made smores with m and m's instead of hershey bars, since we were out. They were quite yummy. The boys were very excited to wave their sparkler around. So much so, that when I went into town the next day, I picked up some more and a little firework kit, too. It should be noted that I got carded buying fireworks. That made my day! :)

On Saturday the Utley's showed up in the afternoon. The kids played and played while the grown ups talked and fished. Dan, Matt and the boys went out on the boat for a while, and caught a few. Aunt Lisa showed up around 6:30 and took over so we could hit Club Shadows for the hockey game. They expected more people this time, so they had a huge screen set up in the banquet part of the place. Since we got their early, we got seats right in front. It was a fun game to watch, especially since we scored first and then went on to shut them out 4-0. When we got back to the cabin it was about 11:30pm and all 4 boys were still up in the living room playing gameboy! What? Aunt Lisa got suckered!

The next day, the Dad's and Boys played kickball for a while. Later we all headed to the beach at the big lake. It was windy, but still a nice day. The kids got in and out of the freezing cold water a few times. But it was Matt who showed off by swimming all the way out to the island! CRAZY! We played some baseball before heading back. Dan had left wings and salmon on the smoker and unfortunetly, we were gone too long. Lesson learned. We finished the night with another fire, more smores and a very cool fireworks show. "Purple Rain" was the fan favorite.

On Monday the Utley's gathered their things and got headed home in the late morning. Daddy and Gret started fishing from the shore and were catching fish left and right! Gret caught 10 before he was done. Reece joined in as well and caught 5 himself. I got to use my fishing gloves that I bought at the Bass Pro Shop and they worked like a charm. I was taking fish off the hook like it was nothing!

It was great to be back at the BH with friends and enjoying some summer like weather. As always, we left wanting more!

Mother's Day Weekend at the BH!

Ah, Mother's Day. A time to head up to the Brown House and relax! A time to let the man and boys in my life pamper me for a few days. And that is exactly what we did.

You know it's MY weekend, when Dan even DRIVES!!!

Friday afternoon we headed up 75 stopping along the way for some magic tricks at Arby's. We got to the BH in time to jump on the trampoline and make a nice fire for smores. Yum.

After putting the kids to bed we watched 27 dresses. Ok, well, I watched it and Dan read and did some computer work. It was a cute movie.

Saturday we woke to bright sunshine and 65 degree temperatures. Perfect! After letting me sleep in, I was served breakfast on the deck. Then we launched the paddle boat and went out on the lake fishing. I had the honor of catching the first fish of the season, but Dan soon upstaged me by reeling in a HUGE large mouth bass! It was a beauty. Luckily Gret had the net ready or it could have been the one that got away! Later on I caught my own bass. It was not quite as big as Dan's, but it was still a nice sized fish. (The 1st fish!)...........................................(The biggest fish!)

We took our bikes with us this time and except for one wipe out (which involved both boys) we had fun riding them to the big lake. Now that we have all the equipment to strap them on the car and go, we plan on bringing them more often.

Saturday evening we went up to Michler's Drive In for the famous chicken dinner. It did not disappoint. Lu and Dorena agreed to take the boys on Sat. night so we could catch the Wings game at a local bar. So, we dropped them off and headed out. It was quite the experience checking out the local bar scene. Very entertaining to say the least! The drinks were very affordable and you could even get elephant ears at the bar...2 for $1.00! Quite a deal. The Wings won to top it all off, making it a great night.

Woke up to clouds on Sunday, which made it easier to pack up and head home. All in all, a wonderful Mother's Day Weekend!
