And Then There Was Trouble!

We were all excited all the way up to the Brown House about how we were now going to be able to drive down the driveway! The snow had melted and we could pull right up to the door to unload instead of climbing up and down our steep hill of a driveway over and over. Until....cue the music "Waaaaahnt....Whaaaaa!"

A TREE HAD FALLEN DOWN RIGHT OVER OUR DRIVEWAY! YES, A TREE! A REAL, FULL GROWN TREE!

Apparently it was not in good shape and split at the base and that was it. Except, it fell in such a way that the top part blocked our drive down. Needless to say, Dan was not happy. That meant on his relaxing weeekend Up North, he would actually have to pull out the chain saw and do work!

I know the words chain saw and Dan in the same sentence make you all a little nervous...but I have to say, he handled the job like a pro. We were able to clear the drive without any medical attention need. (Whew!)

Since the lake was back to being watery again, we threw a couple lines in the water. No one caught anything, but something VERY STRONG took my fake bait right off my line. After a giant tug, I reeled in nothing but fishing line. They are out there, you know! Makes me excited to do more and more fishing this summer! Oh, and the beavers were out in full force. One of them even swam right under Gret's fishing line!

The boys were so excited to get back on the trampoline and jump around like crazy fools. I know that is hard to imagine!

On Saturday the boys and I had woke up to rain. After a while, I went downstairs to get something out of the fridge in the basement and....
(cue the doom and gloom music again)
"Whaaaaant...Whaaaa!"

THE BASEMENT WAS TAKING ON WATER!

NOT GOOD!

At first I thought that maybe the paddle boat was leaking, since we had brought it in for the Winter...but that was just wishful thinking! I soon realized that the water seemed to be coming from the far corner next to the doorwall. Luckily, after about a half hour, the rain had switched to snow and the problem lessened. I soaked up the water and made calls to our builder and our lawn guy who installed our drainage system on the outside of the house. The builder never responded (shocking, I know!) but the landscaper did. He arranged to come out to check it out in the next few days and luckily Lu and Dorena were able to meet with him in our absence. (Thanks so much for that!)

Luckily the problem was correctable. But not without ripping out the rocks and seeing why the water wasn't draining the way it should. After resealing that corner with tar and visqueen, and rerouting the drainage tube, we were back in action. Lu called a few days later after "torential rain" had passed thru to say he went by the house and it was bone dry. Yipee!

So, we had an event filled weekend! We did squeeze in a nice dinner at our place with Lu, Dorena, Aunt Bernice and Lisa. Who, by the way, were able to drive right down the driveway by the time they came by! :)
